Recently, the situation of Bangladesh became worse because of the protests by the local peoples of the country. First, they were protested because of the Reservation policy presented by government. That protest forced Government of Bangladesh to withdrawn the new reservation policy. And recent protests were against the government system that led to fled of Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, who eventually landed in New Delhi, India.

That step led to the political turmoil in Bangladesh as the government of Hasina fall and as the army took over who called for the formation of interim government. So, the interim government formed on 9 August, 2024 under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, who is a Nobel prize winner for the upliftment of poor peoples from the poverty in Bangladesh. But the protests are still going on and the attacks on the minorities became regular act, specially on the Hindu minorities of the country.
Background
The country is the formed in the year of 1971 as the end result of India – Pakistan war of 1971. During the 1971, the election held in East and West Pakistan. East Pakistan was today’s Bangladesh and West Pakistan was the main land Pakistan of modern day. In east Pakistan the peoples speak Bengali language and in east they speak Urdu mostly. In those elections, in east Pakistan (Bangladesh) the majority seats were won the party of Sheikh Mujibir Rehman. But west Pakistan refused to accept government formation in under Mujibir that led took over by army.
That create refugee problem for India as the people started to enter the Indian territory that led instability in North- east India and Pakistan forces also attack on Indian soldiers that led to full fledge war between India and Pakistan. The war came to an end as the Pakistani army surrender in December, 1971. This development led to the formation of modern-day Bangladesh independent of Pakistan.
Major reasons behind the political turmoil in Bangladesh

- The major and resent reason behind the political turmoil in Bangladesh was the new Reservation policy that government tried to implement, but these protests forced to take it back, then the protests were stop for the time being.
- Other major reason may be the conspiracy of the opposition parties to destabilized the administration of Sheikh Hasina in which they eventually succeeded as the administration of Hasina fall.
- The other major could be the recent Parliamentary elections of the Bangladesh. Various peoples and political parties were alleged that the Hasina’s administration manipulated the election process to again won the election.
- Other possible factor that could be the other countries intervention in this matter. This situation is beneficial for the countries like Pakistan, China etc. So, they could be behind this turmoil as Sheikh Hasina was in much favor of India.
Impact and Challenges for India
- During the administration time of Hasina, the relation of both the countries were good. Bangladesh is one of the biggest trading partner South Asia. This turmoil may be a challenge for the trading relations of both the countries.
- The recent attack on the religious minorities in Bangladesh, especially on the Hindu minorities, are the major area of concern as it is our duty to ensure the protection of our religious community through out the world.
- The other could be the problem of refugees as many of the states of India came forward to accept the religious minorities in their respected state for making balance. But that could be a challenge for the security of our nation.
- If China and Pakistan are behind this turmoil than it will also be problematic for India as already there is military rule going on in Myanmar, economic instability in Sri Lanka, political instability in Nepal, and recent turn around in politics of Maldives, are causing problem for India to making balance in Indian ocean countries.
Measure that India may Take to Tackle These Challenges

- The first and foremost steps that India could take to tried to collaborate with the newly formed interim government of Bangladesh.
- The Indian Government should cooperate with Bangladesh authorities to ensure the security of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
- The Indian Government need to raise the issue the of border security with the counter part of Bangladesh, as a committee in formed to easy flow of refugee between the countries. There is also need to further involve in this issue to ensure security of border areas especially. Â Â Â
Thus, India must take every step to ensure the security of our state that will ensure the safety of our citizens. The need is to maintain a close watch on the situation of Bangladesh for the further development in future.
